DAVE WALKER ON THE LEVEL OF THE DROUGHT IN THE EASTERN CAPE HIGHLANDS - Words and images Dave Walker

Had occasion to go to Aliwal yesterday and took a few pictures along the way to illustrate the gravity of the drought situation here at present. The Kraai River yellowfish pictures shown here were in the pool above the Kraai Bridge in the Kraai River Pass – whoppers indeed! (See image gallery below the text.)

The images of the Bell are from the farm Newsted and in the village of Rhodes itself. There are also a couple of images of the Bell seen from the first bridge before Mosheshe’s Ford and a couple taken at the confluence of the Bell and the Sterkspruit.

For interest I have added two images of the Bell and Sterkspruit confluence taken by me in very different conditions, in flood (above) and in perfect conditions (below) and as of now, below that!

Then there is an image of the Orange River in Aliwal North.

Dire indeed, but the gospel according to St www.yr.no is rain tomorrow and Monday however, feeling is believing!
