The Magic of Bamboo
Edited by Todd E A Larson
Clem Booth, a London-based friend and fellow bamboo fly rod fanatic, kindly posted me a copy of The Magic of Bamboo, a delightful collection of essays by 20 luminaries on the subject of split cane fly rods. What sets this book apart is that all the proceeds from sales go towards helping Hanno Jensen and his wife, Kathy Shulkin-Jensen, two much loved and respected figures in the bamboo fly rod world. It seems that illness has brought difficult times to Hanno, but the bamboo community has certainly risen to the challenge with this publication. No contributing author charged a cent and the publishing was done on the house!
Whitefish Press, 208 pages, soft cover, 2013.

There’s a quote in the book that will resonate well with the ‘High Priests’ of the Dark Side! It goes like this.
Someone asked Sparse Grey Hackle when he would start using plastic fly rods. He replied,
When they start playing plastic violins in the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
Sparse Grey Hackle was, of course author of the celebrated book, Fishless Days, Angling Nights.
