From TIM HOWSE, FLY FISHING BIBLIOPHILE AND COLLECTOR:

I have duplicates of some of the early and very rare South African angling literature classics. Among others, these include original copies of:

Trout Fishing in the Cape Colony, by Dumaresq Manning, 1908.

Trout Fishing for South African Boys, by Pennington, 1911.

Trout Fishing in South Africa, South African Railways, 1916.

Trout and Angling in South Africa, by Reid, 1921.

The Rapture of the River, by Sidney Hey, 1957.

I am not really looking to sell them, but would perhaps consider swapping with other keen bibliophiles for classic angling-related literature or items that I don’t have. Apart from books, I also collect early Southern African angling ephemera and fishing tackle. For example, some of the English tackle makers (such as Hardy Bros.) made fishing reels specifically for Southern African angling conditions during the first half of the last century. I dream of one day finding a good example of the Hardy “Rhodesian” reel which was made in very small numbers. There were also some local manufacturers of fishing tackle such as J.H. Healy of Johannesburg who produced excellent fly reels (although heavy & bulky by today’s standards).

I would be very grateful if you would mention my list of books and interests on your website or in your newsletter. Maybe some other mad keen collector would be keen to trade with me.
